Have you ever felt little and insignificant? Have you ever stopped and thought, Oh my, there are 7 billion human beings on this planet and I am just one of them, and add to that billions and trillions of other organisms living on this planet at this particular point in time.
Reincarnation is a philosophical concept, religious too since it finds way in some of the world’s largest religions, which states that any living being starts a new life in a different physical body or form after each biological death. I, for one, am for it. Consider the current population of the world, 7 billion distinct individual human beings. Millions of babies born each minute and millions of people dying each minute. Add to that thousands of years of human evolution, right from the primates to who we are today. now one thing to ponder here is, what does really make us human? Is it the advanced paws which we call hands which help us craft the most complicated of things, is it the legs which help us run and avoid danger, or is it the brains which helped us create the humongous amalgamation which we call us our society? Undoubtedly, it is a combination of all these things, the most important organ being the brain.
Revisiting the concept of reincarnation now, as mentioned earlier, just at this point of time the dynamics of the populations is changing, individuals are changing. On a positive note, babies are being born as you read this, and sadly, people are dying as you read this. It can be safely said that the number of individuals on this planet has cumulatively been in the trillions, and that is just a conservative estimate.
The thinking part of the brain is the frontal lobe in the cerebrum, which affects our perception, thought, behavior, problem solving skills, physical reactions and personality. There can only be so many distinct lobes to give each individual a unique identity. In that case considering the number of distinct individuals we have had throughout the human history, it is bound to happen that the exact same composition of the brain, at least the parts that actively shape up our personality, like the frontal lobe, is present in two or more people, no matter when or where they were born, or what they used to do. For example, a loan shark in the villages of India in the 16th century, and a modern day unethical tax evading businessman could have the exact same ways of thinking, and isn’t this the definition of reincarnation in the first place?
So coming back to the question posed in the first paragraph, no need to have an existential crisis my dear reader, I’m sure your legacy will carry on even after you’re long gone.
I like the way you presented your point. What you said actually gave me, in a somewhat weird way for me, hope. Your writing style is engaging. keep up the good work!

This was really interesting, and again it would be really good if you could flesh it out a bit more in a few sequels. I am just so interested in your topics and your thoughts. I know in Cambodia, after the Pol Pot regime, a lot of people were being “reincarnated” and there is often sound evidence for this that really gets you questioning. Loving your posts!

Yes, the thought hat one could be insignificant is, a crushing and humbling one at the same time. Imagine- we are a speck amidst billions of galaxies, but, we think we are invincible. Strange? Fatalistic?

I like to believe that you’re right – if only there was a way for us to access our previous life in each reincarnation. Perhaps that’s a part of our brains we still don’t know exactly how to dive into (subconscious). Great post and great writing!

Dear ShiningGem,
As one of the more eclectic and kindred writers among the Bloggers I follow, I value your input on the short-short story “Morning Flight” that I posted in response to WordPress’s 7/21/17 Daily Post prompt “Gate”.
I know you’re busy and your time is precious, but please take a few minutes to peruse my brief post and offer feedback. It’s the first piece of completed fiction I’ve managed to produce in over 20 years. You can find it at:
Thank you very much. Take care, be well, and happy thinking,

Very interesting post. I like the point you made about how there must be two people who must have the same brain function. I mean, with 7 billion people in this world it’s definitely possible. I also think there are duplicate souls. It’s an interesting topic thanks for sharing l

It is isn’t it? Most of the phenomena like this are just a result of simple math and physics concepts. Even if the probability of something happening is 0.001%, it still could happen as long as it isn’t exactly 0.

Yes I agree!! Math is everywhere. Everything on this planet is a math concept for sure.

I felt myself insignificant when I read that in the past human population had not reached 1% of the total population. It is hard to realise that we have not always been the main actors here. I do not want to hurt religious people, they can have other views about our past.

There are a few books with alleged real life accounts of reincarnation, children with memories of people and places…it’s compelling .
I’d like to think we get another chance at this.

Yours is a fascinating idea on reincarnation. I have read a few compelling accounts of it and have always thought it’s prevalence in the wisdom of old ought to be given more respect than modern material based science affords it. As to feeling insignificant, it happens that I wrote my first blog article about that very thought . I am new to blogging and not sure of etiquette here so I will post the link and ask you to please just delete it if this is not accepted practice in the blogging world. http://www.damnimfifty.com/you-matter/

I am afraid that by mapping the functioning of our organism science has eradicated the existance of human soul. Actually we are said to optimalise the given resources to survive and to reproduce.
Our arrogance used to be bases on our unique conscience in the past. In contrast, nowadays we boost with our scientific advances but we do not really highlight that our existence follows the very same rules than that of any other organisms on the planet.
The same biological structure for different humans are likely to occur. However, different influences can conceal this similarity.

The other day I was at my daughter Gia’s, Mimi’s house. While browsing Facebook, Jen (Mimi) and Gia were seated together, and Jen found a photo where she commented that she was “fat.” My daughter who is six gently brushed her Mimi’s bangs to the side and said: “Mimi, you always look the same, and you are always beautiful”. I always say that Gia is an old soul, and often wonder if she has lived once before. Great post!

Hey SG, reincarnation is really a religious belief system about the “life” after death. While I understand your point of view I feel that it isn’t appealing. To believe you will be something less or greater after your “death” in the next life doesn’t work well. My biggest beef is that it does not leave you any choice in this life and leads many people to be fatalistic in this thinking and living. Fatalism is never a good thing.
Also, when speaking about evolution we need to preface it as the “theory of” since it has never been scientifically proven but assumed. Evolution is also a belief system since there are no scientific proofs of the theory, only generalizations . For evolution to be true we would need to find fossils and bones in every part of the world that would connect “each stage” of change from a monkey to a man/woman. It just doesn’t exist.
Respectfully challenging,
Michael

Hello Michael, first of all, thank you for the challenging comment.
The problem with your line of thinking is that if someone is inherently a negative person, it doesn’t matter what doctrine he believes in. You don’t have to believe in reincarnation to be negative and leave everything to fate. The reverse is also true. If someone thinks that in the end I will die and my entire being will never exist again, then what’s the point of doing stuff, let’s leave everything to fate and go with the flow. All I was trying to convey was that a human should do what he needs to do, and not get sad over the fact that they are going to die. A lot of people do not believe in this doctrine, and I respect that fact, I was just trying to convey what I feel and what I believe in. That doesn’t necessarily mean I am right and others are wrong.
As far as evolution is concerned, it has already given us more answers than creationism ever could. Even as humans we have evolved. For example, a person from the medieval ages is much different than you and I, at that time, the diseases people were subjected to were different, and we as humans have evolved to have natural immunity against such diseases.
Also, the earth is a mighty large body. It takes time to exhume bones and fossils and research the links, we will get there, do not worry.
Feel free to reply to me, this is a nice debate we’ve got going here. I wouldn’t even mind if we carried this debate on to our next life. 😉

Bingo! They say death is just an illusion, and this I believe. Life seems too familiar at times, many “I’ve done this before moments” you know Deja Vu’s and what not. Well said! 🙂

reincarnation is fascinating subject as every human being is baffled by the very question after death what? so this helps them to feel a bit positive about continuity of life after death. You have explained illogical manner and that makes it great.
i belive in existentialism. But have seen some examples that could prove that life exists after death.
kindly read my blogs /poems and give your valuable comment.would be glad to see

Given that your theory is correct, please contemplate for a second the fact that our planet is slowly beeing over populated, which would mean that the world is slowly getting less of many other important elements making out the food chains a t lower levels; pollinators for instance?
And since this tiny elements are all needed in order to keep things going, an accute shortage would create devastating conequences – right?
Actually our world should have stopped functioning a hundred years ago – at least? But it didn’t!
Which would fortunately indicate that something is wrong with the basic elements of this train of thoughts? (I hope)

Since the world didn’t stop working, I don’t think we’re at the breaking point. IMO there still is a lot many years (a few thousands) remaining till the next extinction.

My take is that it’s more like a lava lamp than a revolving door. But there are many ways in which our actions and choices outlive us; so does our matter; so do our genetics — even if we don’t have kids. https://petersironwood.wordpress.com/2017/03/09/math-class-who-are-you/
